What is Windhorse Relations?
Windhorse Relations is a not for profit corporation dedicated to educating the America Wild Horse as teachers and ambassadors and to provide educational, experiential skills-based trainings about creating willing relationships with the mustangs, others and self.

What is M.E.E.T.?
Mustang Educational, Experiential Trainings offer a broad range of objectives. M.E.E.T. the Mustangs allows humans to bond with the American Wild Horse and dispel misconceptions as well as experience a willing relationship based in trust and confidence.

How will M.E.E.T. improve my life?
An experience with these incredible teachers fosters empathy by observing the Mustang's process of overcoming fear. Your life could improve by:

  • Developing trust, forgiveness, love, and service. Bonding the horse with your inner self
  • Managing anger more effectively
  • Creating personal tolerance
  • Communicating non-verbally
  • Creating willing partnerships
  • Respecting others perspectives
  • Coping with anxiety
  • Building self-confidence
  • Opening hearts closed by trauma

What is Equine Assisted Therapy (EAP)?
EAP is an emerging field of health science that is rapidly gaining popularity with health care practitioners and corporate trainers nationwide. Horses are utilized as catalysts for mental and emotional growth by acting as part of a team consisting of the participant, a horse professional, as a therapist. This experiential model goes beyond the activity of riding and challenges preconceived notions of the horse-human relationship. In this work, horses are equal facilitators in the process.

Why do you work with wild mustangs in your program?
Simply put, we need each other. American Mustangs are a national treasure and resource in need of our help. Each year the BLM takes horses off the range to preserve the health and welfare of the herds and the land’s resources. American Mustangs embody the spirit of freedom. Their minds are clear, not yet fully influenced by man. Innately, they value the herd and want to make connections. The horses are the teachers and gives bio-feedback which allows one to learn the power of non-verbal communication and its subtle yet profound effects on relationships and inner peace. These interactions with wild horses create a well of wisdom one can draw from the rest of his/her life. "Hook-on" is when the horses freely choose to be with you. The horse partners with you in a dance of mutual respect and harmony. One feels the spiritual connection of oneness.

Is working with mustangs safe?
Yes. The Windhorse herd goes through an extensive “gentling” before they are exposed to a training situation. The mustang is free in a round pen and knows he is safe because he can move away or flee when he is afraid.

How are the mustangs trained?
It is first helpful to understand what WindhorseRelationShip is not. It is not controlling, breaking, and riding wild horses as quickly as possible. The process is most important, meaning, the relationship between the human/horse is most important. First and most importantly we create willing relationships with our horses based in trust. Our training methods are founded in communication without restraint or punishment. Learning is a shared experience by horse and trainer with both participating equally and giving themselves to the process of communication and understanding. We think that it is well stated by horseman Ray Hunt “When you ask a horse to do something it should be his idea..he wants to do it, he likes to do it, he understands how to do it, and he does it willingly.”
