Our Horses: Aspen

On Easter of 2007, we found a grand surprise at Kayenta Korrals.  Sequoia, Juniper's mom, delivered a little foal.  She was impregnated a few weeks after she gave birth to Juniper while they were in the wild.  Although Juniper is a lot lighter than her mother, Aspen has her exact coloring.  He is a stunning dun with shoulder stripes and white socks.

Aspen is a great adventure for us.  He has never known fear nor has he been in a herd that is frightened.  Therefore, he is fearless.  He thinks the world is his play-thing and everything should be investigated!  We amuse him with balls and any other toys we can think of and he has entertained us all with his antics. He rolls balls under his mother, hucks rubber buckets at his pen mates, and continually plays "nip knees" with anyone who will tolerate him. His love of life is infectious and love of play contagious. He brings much joy to horse and human alike.

When other horses paw at the water trough to cool off their chests, he puts in all four feet. He entices Pinon to mud wrestle in the rain, and is basically a continual pester pot.

We put him with older members of the herd so they can help socialize him and teach him about boundaries and respect.  He halters and leads, but likes to hold the lead rope in his mouth.

He knows he is darling, and has a fan club Kayenta Korrals and at Brighton Meadows who walk by to tell him how cute he is every day. He is the kind of colt that views every day as a new and exciting adventure and brings smiles to everyone he encounters.
