Adopted in May 2002, Pearl is from the Antelope herd near Wendover, Utah.
Pearl is one of the four babies in the “gem collection” of Jade, Beryl and Jasper. She is getting bored with ranch life and is ready for bigger and better things.
Pearl is a Grulla which is a stunning and practical mustang color. Like Pepper, if you put a Grulla in the desert landscape their coloration makes them disappear into the sagebrush. Their coloring includes black eyeliner for the intense summer sun.
Pearl and Jade have been the escapees who visit other areas of the ranch. They make mystery appearances in other fields, but by the time forces are rallied to escort them back, they are mingling innocently with the herd. Pearl loves jumping logs and is enamored with her physicality. Pearl’s personality also reminds us of Pepper and will hopefully be her replacement.
2009 Update:
Pearl has become Marcia's main ride. She is brave, and has a lot of self-carriage. She faces new situations with independence, curiosity and confidence.
Pearl loves to investigate, and has been known to walk into Marcia's office, knowing there might be carrots in the refrigerator, or into the trailer tack compartment, because "who knows what neat things are in there to play with."
Needless to say, she has no trouble trailer loading. In the fall she began wearing a bridle and took to it as if she'd had it all along. She is soft, willing and has a lot of go. She loves learning new things and spending time with the more advanced horses.
