Our Horses: Sequoia

Sequoia was adopted with her foal, Juniper, at the St. George Sulphur Herd adoption in 2006.  Unknown to us at that time she was also pregnant.  Wild horses can get  pregnant two weeks after they deliver!

She is a stunning dark Dun, with reddish blond mane highlights. She has a star on her head and a white hind sock.  Aspen and Juniper have nothing on their mother when it comes to stunning!

She has always been skeptical of humans and we have given her space because for the first two years she was nursing Juniper, carrying Aspen, and then, nursing Aspen. She is becoming more resilient, largely because of her son's pranks.  He likes rolling play balls under her stomach, walking all around her with branches, picking up buckets and hucking them up in the air, and so on.

She has turned a corner recently and seems to be tired of being so frightened and vigilant all of the time.  She just needs a little more experience and confidence around things that might seem unusual.

People in our programs love to work with her because she is so authentic, expressive, intelligent and sensitive. They thoroughly enjoy helping her through scary experiences and demonstrating that she is okay when she is with them.

2010 Update:

Sequoia has decided she loves to meet people, loves carrots, and loves being groomed.  She is turning a corner and communicating that she is ready to move into more education in the Spring. She is a very courageous and athletic mare and we are excited to move forward with her education.
