Our Horses: Teak

Adopted in 1998, Teak is from the Sulphur herd, which roam about 45 miles west of Milford, Utah.

Teak is the Sulphur poster girl. Her striking dun coat with dorsal strip draws visitors’ eyes. Teak has a thicker body and a more reserved approach than Hickory. She is a close observer and chooses carefully whom she will partner with. Self-confidence and cool-headed decision-making has gained her a high ranking in the herd.

Teak is a wonderful combination of mind, body, and spirit. She thinks through situations without wasteful jumping and running. Her compact, strong 14’2” hand frame as well as her athletic ability are the same traits that made the Quarter Horse so popular. Her eyes radiate a vibrant spirit.

Teak has only been ridden six times and her whole future is ahead of her. It will be exciting to watch her story unfold.

2009 Update:

During our Gentling Classes, Nino Thomas fell in love with Teak and Teak seemed to feel the same way about her.  Nino adopted her from Windhorse in 2008.  Watching the progress these two have made is a pure joy. Nino has the patience to take it as slowly as Teak needs, but the tenacity to make continual progress.  The bond between them has taken Teak to new levels of confidence and resilience.  We are thrilled to  have Nino join our Windhorse Family and delight in her relationship with Teak -- What a perfect partnership!

2010 Update:

Teak and Nino have made great progress. Nino is riding her now and they are doing great. Because of Nino's willingness to focus on the willing relationship, rather than having an agenda or timeline, Teak's confidence has grown and she is going to be a very solid horse.
